Succesful Surgery
Medical procedures and safety
These questions can help guide your preparation and alleviate concerns about your medical tourism experience.
Yes, our procedures can be sensitive in nature to each individual and Medorg will accommodate your request to speak to a male or female during the initial inquiry.
Common procedures include cosmetic surgeries (like rhinoplasty or nose shaping, liposuction, and breast augmentation), dental work (such as implants and veneers), and other cosmetic surgeries.
Recovery times vary by procedure. It’s important to discuss this with your physician and plan to stay in Colombia for the recommended time for follow-ups. Medorg recommends at least one week with two weeks being ideal depending on doctors’ orders.
Colombia boasts a wealth of modern hospitals and healthcare facilities, ensuring high-quality medical care for your journey. While it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, like any travel destination, many visitors experience Colombia without issues.
To enhance your peace of mind, Medorg provides reliable transport directly to your doctor's appointments, ensuring your comfort and convenience. We will be at your side and every appointment empowering you to travel confidently.
Logistics and services
No, our providers have offices in Bogota, Cali, Cartagena and Barranquilla. Although we have visited the Medellin locations, we have not visited all of our providers other locations.
It is recommended to have travel insurance for unforeseen events related to the trip. Medorg offers this service through a third-party provider.
Medorg packages include airport transfers, hotel stays, and local transportation to and from medical appointments.
Air Travel is non-stop from Fort Lauderdale and Miami to Medellin and offered by several carriers. Travel time in around three and one-half hours. Medorg can assist you from these destinations. We can help make arrangements from Miami International Airport or Fort Lauderdale International Airport.
Medorg has identified reputable facilities with positive reviews, experienced medical staff, and transparent pricing. Medorg evaluates doctors' certifications, licenses, and patient testimonials. Our doctors have privileges at clinics or hospitals that we have visited and approved.
Discuss this with your medical provider to ensure you have all necessary records before returning home. They can also provide recommendations for follow-up care in your home country. It would also be helpful to carry current medical records upon your arrival.
Travel insurance does not cover your cosmetic procedure. Colombian doctors are required to carry errors and omissions insurance, which the doctors provide themselves and which is separate from travel insurance. Ask your surgeon what it covers and for how long. For travel insurance, or for a separate medical-tourism complication policy, contact Maria del Carmen, our travel insurance specialist.
Yes, Medorg offers dedicated care through its network, including pre-operative consultations, post-operative follow-ups, and assistance throughout your stay.
Practical and additional aspects
You can exchange money at your local USA bank or change money at the airport in Medellin or the other destinations in Colombia. Please Google the money exchange rate which is USD vs Colombian Peso to see how many Pesos you will get for each $1.00 USD (Untied States Dollar), see the current value here:
You will need a valid USA passport valid for six months after your return date from Colombia. You are allowed to stay in Colombia for six months and no Visa is required. Keep in mind you must show a round trip or return ticket on many airlines.
Costs can vary widely depending on the procedure, but generally, medical expenses in Colombia can be significantly lower than in the U.S. or Europe, often by 50-70%.
Traveling with Your PetIf you have a USA provider, Medorg suggests you call for the rates of the International Plans. You can also buy a local SIM Card in Colombia. The internet is very good in Colombia so if you want to use WhatsApp, Telegram or other communication APP, you can avoid the additional cost of an International Plan.
Traveling with Your Pet
Yes — pet travel insurance is a real, purchasable product, and it is generally available for international trips, including trips to Colombia. It is a separate product from the human travel insurance Maria helps you arrange, so it's worth understanding what it does and doesn't do before you rely on it. |
Typically covers: ● Injury treatment if your pet is hurt in an accident during a covered trip ● Illness treatment if your pet gets sick while traveling (some policies even cover pre-existing conditions) ● Pet return assistance — transporting your pet home separately, with an attendant if needed, if you must cut your trip short due to your own injury or illness |
Typically, does NOT cover: ● Trip cancellation because of a pet-related issue ● Boarding or kennel costs ● A lost pet Always confirm exactly what's included before you buy — coverage varies significantly by provider and plan. |
A few providers that offer pet travel insurance for international trips: battleface (medical coverage around $2,000 with a $100 deductible, plus $500 in pet-return assistance), Allianz, Travelex, and IMG. We are not appointed agents for these pet-specific policies, but Maria is happy to help you think through how pet coverage fits alongside your own travel insurance plan. |
This part is not optional, and insurance does not replace it. These are government requirements set by Colombia's ICA (Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario), current as of 2026. Requirements can change, so confirm current details before you travel. |
● Sanitary Import Certificate (CIS): obtained in advance through ICA's SISPAP digital portal ● Veterinary health certificate from an accredited vet (USDA-accredited for US travelers), issued within 10 calendar days of arrival ● APHIS endorsement for travelers coming from the US (processing takes about 7–10 business days) ● Up-to-date vaccinations — dogs: rabies (at least 30 days before travel, not expired), distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza; cats: panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and rabies ● Antiparasitic treatment within 60 days of travel ● Microchip recommended, though not required ● Breed restrictions: Pit Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, and related hybrids are not permitted entry (service animals may qualify under separate documentation) |
If the CIS registration is skipped, your pet may be placed into a home quarantine process involving two ICA follow-up visits, at a cost of roughly $138 or more. Plan ahead — most of these steps need to be started weeks before departure. |
Bringing a pet adds its own timeline to your trip planning — the CIS, vet certificate, and vaccination windows all have hard deadlines that don't move for your surgery date. If you're planning to travel with a pet, message Maria del Carmen Diaz Campuzano on WhatsApp early so she can help you sequence your travel insurance alongside your pet's paperwork timeline
